Overview

Professional Summary

Dr. Ponlagrit Kumwichar received his MD and from the Faculty of Medicine, Prince of Songkla University in 2018. He then started his PhD studies at the Department of Epidemiology in 2019, earned his doctorate in 2022, and joined the Department as a faculty member. During his doctoral studies, he developed a video-observed therapy (VOT) system to help improve monitoring of tuberculosis treatment. His thesis research period coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, thus the VOT system also helped to pave the way for pandemic and post-pandemic adaptations in health services (more details here).

As of October 2023, Dr. Kumwichar's active research projects include mining secondary data from the national universal health coverage (UHC) system and other big data sources to yield insights, such as the association between COVID-19 pneumonia and risk of tuberculosis (see here) and assessment of ICD-10 diagnoses preceding (potentially delayed) tuberculosis diagnosis (see here).

His research interests include health and clinical data science, data mining, big data, infectious diseases epidemiology, and medical informatics.
